What's new for 2023?

The Ford Escape now has an attractive new front end that includes a wider grille, a redesigned hood and front bumper and a nice array of new wheel design choices. The plug-in hybrid version now stands alone as his own trim and every model has moved up to the Sync 4 infotainment system. You can now get over-the-air software updates and a big 13.2-inch infotainment display screen is an available upgrade.

Trim levels

For 2023, buyers from Greenville and Williamston, NC have a total of five different trims to choose from:

• Base
• Active
• ST-Line
• Platinum
• PHEV

Engines and performance options

The new Escape lets you choose from a nice menu of powertrains that start with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that delivers 181 horsepower. That engine can take an all-wheel drive Escape SE model to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is turbocharged and delivers 250 horsepower so it can hit 60 mph in an impressive 5.7 seconds.

In addition, you can choose one of two hybrid powertrains, one of which is a plug-in model. Both are comprised of a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine along with two electric motors that create a combined 210 horsepower.

Fuel economy

The turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine in the Escape with front-wheel drive gives you 27 MPG in urban areas and 33 MPG on highways around Vanceboro and Chocowinity, NC. If you go with all-wheel drive, your gas mileage gets reduced to 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. The bigger turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder equipped with all-wheel drive should give you an estimated 23 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. The plug-in hybrid can give you fuel economy ratings that reach as high as 44 MPG in the city.

Interior comfort and cargo space

The cabin in the new Ford Escape is spacious and handsomely styled with enough room for people in both the first and second rows. Textured cloth upholstery comes standard but the Platinum trim arrives with synthetic faux-leather seating surfaces. The Escape provides a competitive amount of cargo room for its class with 37.5 cubic feet behind the back row and a maximum of 65.4 cubic feet when the second-row seats are folded down.

Infotainment technology

The new Ford Escape comes with a standard 8-inch touch screen, wireless smartphone connectivity, remote keyless entry and a six-speaker stereo. You can upgrade to an available 13.2-inch touch screen, wireless device charging, satellite radio and a Bang & Olufsen stereo with 10 speakers. Other available features include push-button start, remote start, an automatically-dimming rear-view mirror and a panoramic sunroof.

Safety technology

The new Ford Escape comes with a long list of standard safety features including a rear-view camera, automatic high-beam headlights, a lane-departure warning system, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
